You can book into any of the retreats for 2024 right now by dropping me a line and paying the $200 deposit. APRIL JUST WRITE IS NOW FULLY BOOKED but places are available for August and October. I first started these retreats because I couldn’t afford to go to any of the fancy ones we saw advertised, so the accommodation isn’t posh, but the workshops and people are first class! (We like to think so anyway)

I’m attending this event, not hosting it, as Susan Johnson is my favourite Queensland author and a brave and tender-hearted memoirist whose brain I’m eager to pick for tips on memoir writing. Her memoirs Aphrodite’s Breath about her mother and A Better Woman about her own experiences as a young mother are both totally brilliant. Stories of Motherhood. Our Mothers, Ourselves. FREE!
Whether your mother was a saint, or a sinner, we have stories to tell about them, and about ourselves and our own experiences of motherhood, both the joyful moments and the challenges. Join me for this special inspiring and interactive workshop and learn how to write the stories that so easily get lost —the important stories of women’s experiences as daughters, mothers and grandmothers. For too long women’s adventures in motherhood, the toughest job there is, have gone unseen. Now is the time to record your own, or your mother’s and grandmother’s, stories so they will live on and be seen and understood by future generations. Come ready to write! All welcome. No writing experience necessary. We’ll have lots of fun!

I’m moderating two panels this year at the BWF. One on Anthologies, and the other on memoirs which will include my dear friend Kerstin Pilz and international retreat cohost with her new book Loving my Lying Dying Cheating Husband!

AUGUST 31 and SEPTEMBER 1 – MACKAY WRITERS RETREAT WORKSHOPS
Yes, a retreat is coming to Mackay! No yoga, just writing (well maybe I’ll squeeze some breathing and movement into the weekend). 4 workshops over the weekend. Organised by the fabulous Mackay Writers group. My dear friend Gay (my local retreat co-host/chief cookie) is a lifetime member, so she’s super excited about this one. North Queensland folk, this is your chance to attend a retreat closer to home. We’ll be based at the Seabreeze Hotel, Lambert’s Beach.
